The Neighborhood Tennis Club Summary of Rules (4/10/2022) 

Rules of The Neighborhood Tennis Club” governs the use of the courts.

Our rules for play this summer will be posted on the front gate and are listed below.

These rules must be observed in order to maintain the safety and condition of the courts, the safety and convenience of the members, and the high standard of courtesy and fairness that has been our tradition. Members must take responsibility for all in their household and for their guests to read, understand, and observe these rules.

COURT USAGE

1. Members must submit a completed membership form each spring, prior to using the courts.

2. The courts are for the use of club members, their household members who are included on their membership form, and their accompanied guests.

3. The courts are for tennis only and may be used only from 6:45 AM to dusk

4. If both courts are in use and a further group arrives to play, that court which first completes 60 minutes of play must be vacated at the end of the ongoing game.

5. Members and their household members who are included on their membership form may invite guests to play with them. Guests and family from another household must be accompanied.

6. A particular guest may not play more than once in a calendar week unless a court is found unused.

Short-term house guests (overnight to two weeks) may play without this limitation but must still be accompanied.
Long-term house guests (more than two weeks), house renters and house sitters, with prior notification by the member and approval from The Neighborhood Tennis Club officers, may play without limitation and without being accompanied, and may, with additional approval, invite guests themselves. These house guests / renters / sitters must sign the agreement on the membership form before using the courts.

7. Professional lessons shall not take precedence over other members’ court time.

8. Please keep loud voices to a minimum as a courtesy to our neighbors. Please keep conversation to a minimum during play as a courtesy to players on the other court.

9. Children under the age of 8 are not permitted inside the court enclosure without responsible supervision. To avoid potential accidents and as a courtesy to other players, small children, even under supervision, are not permitted to run loose on the courts.

10.No bicycles, tricycles, strollers, etc. and no pets are allowed inside the court enclosure under any circumstances.

COURT MAINTENANCE

1. All players must wear tennis shoes. Shoes with corrugated soles such as running, cross-trainer, or basketball shoes are prohibited. Barefoot play is prohibited.

2. Do not play when the courts are wet. Use under wet conditions causes tracks and gouges, is harmful to court quality and upkeep, and is prohibited.

3. Under no circumstances are the fences to be climbed.

4. At the termination of play, the drag-brushes must be used to smooth the entire court and the rotary line-brushes used to clean the lines. The 2 sprinklers on each side of the courts must be kept clear of obstructions.

5. Please take your empty containers and other trash with you when you leave.

6. The three gates must be locked when the courts are not being used. Please contact the Secretary/Treasurer to replace lost or misplaced keys.

GENERAL


● Application for membership in The Neighborhood Tennis Club must be in writing, addressed to: the current club President at: NTCLexington@gmail.com
● Membership is at the discretion of the Proprietary Members, but proximity to the tennis courts and the order of receipt of written requests for membership are taken into consideration.
● Membership in The Neighborhood Tennis Club is not passed on to a new homeowner upon sale of a property of an existing member.
● It is the responsibility of club members to inform other household members, guests, house sitters, renters and other guests of The Neighborhood Tennis Club rules.
● Comments regarding the infraction of any of these rules may be addressed to the President or Secretary of The Neighborhood Tennis Club at: NTCLexington@gmail.com
● Walking, riding bicycles or car-pooling to the tennis courts helps ease the potentially dangerous situations with regards to pedestrians and parking. As a courtesy to neighboring residents, please avoid bringing a car to the tennis courts whenever possible.
● Under no circumstances should there be any dumping of brush, leaves or refuse on the club property, which includes the woods next to the courts.
